SNAKES ON A PLANE FULL REVIEW
Sunday, August 20th, 2006Ok, let me start by saying that I have never felt joy from pillar to post at a movie in this way at any time before. I may never feel so awesome at a movie ever again. For all the buildup, over a full year of excited waiting for this movie to come out, I had a feeling deep down that it would not fail me. I was right in a huge way. Joy and fun are what drives summer movies, and this one delivered in an unbelievable way.
SNAKES ON A PLANE REVIEW:
The film opens with our main plot point, a young guy in Hawaii witnesses a vicious murder from criminal psychopath Eddie (Fucking) Kim. His life is immediately in danger and FBI agent Neville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson) comes to save him, and the day. He quickly convinces him to testify in LA, and so they board a flight headed that way. Eddie (Fucking) Kim, who by the way will kill you, finds out about this flight and sets up a box containing 500 poisonous snakes to be let loose halfway during the 5 hour flight over the ocean.
With that set up once the snakes go loose, all hell breaks loose, as they take the concept to about every single level they possibly can, and pure fun mayhem is the result. I’d go into further detail, but why? You now know everything that you need to.
In the theatre I was at (Chinese Theatre in Hollywood) the entire audience was on board from the first second it started til the very last credit. There was much cheering, screaming, yelling, laughing, and all other verbal ways of expressing joy. I felt for 2 hours like I was a part of something powerful. Like somehow there was a wash of pure fun that got sprayed over everybody there.
What is amazing is it actually is a pretty well made film, with everyone involved knowing full well what kind of a movie they are putting together, and striving to make it the best what it is it can be. There is this beautiful clash of styles as about half the cast plays it totally straight, while the other half does it tongue in cheek as you get. Special mention should be made for David Koechner, who plays the co-pilot, he was hysterical and a great opposite from the Captain, who totally played it straight.
Every single time Samuel L Jackson did anything remotely heroic, like forming a plan, yelling at people, or crushing snakes, everyone in my theatre cheered, it was surreal. Every time a snake bite someone, the place went nuts. I can only expect that the same was true in every theatre playing it, at least those doing late night shows. Let’s just say that this is not the movie to see at 2pm in the afternoon. Go late, kick back a few first, and set your mind on pure entertainment, it is the best way to experience this piece of culture.
One amazing thing to me is how glowingly positive all the reviews have been, it’s like suddenly every reviewer in the country ‘got it’ all at once. Good for them.
In closing, this is easily the best movie of the summer. Go see it, you’ll want to go again. I have the theme song running through my head, it’s VERY catchy. I got a poster at the premiere and now have it hanging on my wall. I can’t wait to buy the DVD. Simply put, this is the most fun I have ever had at a movie.

If they make a Snakes 2, I want in. I will be looking hard to find an audition for it, it would make my life.
